Events for a Winter Weekend

Gumbo SmackdownIt should feel wintery by the weekend. The Houstonia Magazine is having its second Gumbo Smackdown (FB Event), which sounds fabulous to me. Saturday afternoon, advance tickets suggested ($25 for 4 hours of yum).

But they weren’t too busy to make you a list of other things to do this weekend: Film (the Houston Cinema Arts Festival), Classical Music (Bach and scions with Ars Lyrica, and Da Camera commemorating Galileo), Comedy (Lewis Black at BMC), and Opera (Hansel & Gretel at Opera in the Heights).

That sounds like a fabulous list if they don’t conflict will your Fall Football (Texas v Oklahoma State, 6:30 Sat; Houston Texans @ Cleveland, noon Sun – i’m pretty sure those are the only football games being played this weekend.)

Show 5 – The Pastry War

Finally a chance to do the thing we love the most, a bar review. After reading about the Pastry War in Bon Appetite magazine, a trip was needed to see why it’s listed as one of the Top 5 New Bars in the country.
